An aqua civil-war era wax sealer quart that is embossed on the sloping shoulder: "UNION No 1". Beautiful condition with sparkling glass that displays a whittled effect in the sloping upper section. The grooved ring was formed manually while the glass was still hot by downward pressure on the mouth. The sheared mouth was then finished by grinding. No damage or stains including an excellent ground mouth with very little nicking. Comes with the rare original sheet iron cap, which is a unique form to this series of jars, and extremely scarce to find. The cap has some rust but still in solid condition. Base: unmarked.
