Size: 48 oz
Color: AMBER
Closure: original glass lid, original sealing gasket, and original cast iron yoke clamp with thumbscrew with black paint
Appearance: sparkling glass
Condition: no damage to the jar or the lid
Embossing: strong
Base: "4"
Age: late 1800's
Availability: Rare. This particular example is a fresh find, recently discovered during the clean-out of a residence outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. All previous known examples of this jar (around 12 jars) came from a single find, discovered during the clean out of another residence in the town of Milwaukee, back in the late 1960's. The former occupant had been a homeopathic physician, who had presumably special-ordered these amber jars from Whitall-Tatum for use in his medicinal business in the late 1800's. This one is in virtually attic-mint condition, even including the original sealing gasket.
