Closure:  Rare original unlined zinc cap with Shield logo and 1859 patent date lettering. The vertical side lug was formed by an outward stamping into the threads. The lid is in good condition with no splitting or holes. One small nibble on the lower edge. Only a very few of these lids are known to exist in this larger half gallon size.

Appearance: sparkling glass

Condition:  normal edge flaking of the ground mouth

Embossing:  strong

Base: "26"

Age:  c1860-1870
