A Full Gallon sized advertising or promotional jar which is embossed in a circular arrangement with 1862 & 1864 patent dates encircling "W.W. LYMAN" as shown. Nice shiny glass with some whittly character. Has a faint trace of light surface deposits. Good condition with the exception of the mouth, which has 3 chips, two of which have cracks radiating out of them. The shorter of the two lip cracks is in the back to the left of the seal release notch, and is confined to the vertical section of the mouth (12 o'clock position in the mouth photo). The other one is longer and is located right along the right mold seam and extends into the bulge of the neck (4 o'clock position in mouth photo). The third chip is right above the seal release notch in back (2 o'clock position in the mouth photo) and has no cracks radiating from it. With the lid in place and the jar sitting on the shelf, these defects will never be noticed. The large size metal cap is a replica, as are the metal caps on all known examples of this jar in Gallon size. Base: unmarked. An extremely rare old jar.
This item is from the Philip Robinson museum collection.
