A set of 6 Horlicks half pint jars in their original hinged-lid display case (or sales case) made of quarter-sawn oak. Three of the jars are aqua, two are clear, and one is white milk glass. This jar, and one other example, are the only Horlicks jars made of white milk glass known to exist.
The jars all have their original caps and have period spice labels and some traces of spice contents. The white milk glass jar is hand blown with a ground mouth and marked on the base "W.T.Co. 23". The other jars are machine-made.
One other similar example of a Horlicks spice chest was reported by Tom Caniff in the ABGC magazine in March 2011. That chest was not made of wood, but was similar in form and the jars didn't have labels. The inside of the lid in that box had a promotional placard for Horlicks. The underside of the box lid in this auction may have been lined similarly, as two tacks remain under the lid.
This wonderful rarity recently turned up at a household estate auction in Missouri, and is presented exactly as found.
