Size: 1/4 Pint "Salesman Sample" style jar
Color: AQUAMARINE
Closure: unmarked Gem style glass insert and a zinc screw band
Appearance: shiny glass
Condition: chipping all around the outer edge of the ground mouth
Embossing: strong
Base: "LIBERIA & PHILADELPHIA"
Age: c1876
Availability: Extremely rare, the only example known. See the full research article on this jar in the 2014 Fruit Jar annual by Jerry McCann. The jar is believed to have been displayed at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876 by the proprietors of the ES Morris & Co as part of promoting his business in imported goods from Liberia. And then permanently in the Liberian Display at the Exhibition Building for the ensuing few years thereafter. The jar is very similar in shape and style to some of the known Salesman Sample fruit jars of the period such as The Gem.
